About Me

I make each item with the utmost care and attention to detail to ensure a quality product from start to finish.

It warms my heart to make handmade items, that warm the body, heart and soul of those who hold them!

From a young age, I have always been creative and interested in art and craft and music. I studied ‘cottage craft’, visual arts and music throughout high school. And did the odd course in ‘botanical and wildlife illustration’. I also enjoy painting, playing and writing musical compositions on the piano; and taking photographs. Most of all, I try to have fun – and enjoy life – amongst good friends, good times and have lots of laughs!

I have studied science and environmental education. I work full time in performing arts… my 'work' often inspires me to make and create!

Knitting is an intriguing art: the fact that a ball of yarn can create a multitude of useful and fashionable items, all using combinations of ‘knit’ and ‘purl’ stitches!

I love to use good quality, luxurious, natural, and eco-friendly yarns in bright colours and enjoy knitting funky, modern designs; and experimenting with my own designs and creations.

I taught myself how to knit in my early teens, and seriously took up the art of knitting in June 2007, as a hobby, making beanies and scarves as gifts.

I then learnt how to read patterns and charts, how to do lacework (making holes that don’t unravel) and cables (crossing stitches and knitting then in a different order), and how to make just about anything, by reading books and looking at tutorials; and learning from other like-minded folk, including experts from the local Handweavers, Spinners and Dyers Guild of Tasmania, and the Northern Tas Yarn Lovers.

I also learnt about the different types and gauges of yarns; and what they are made from – not just the usual ‘itchy’ stuff, but softer and sustainable materials, for example, corn, soy, silk, milk, musk ox, bison, possum, chiton, tencel… not just wool and alpaca!

Knitting then turned somewhat into an "obsession" – I was addicted – in a good way!

The ‘business’ then ‘evolved’ as I started getting orders, through friends, colleagues and word-of-mouth, and I also had the opportunity to stock items in the “Gallery at the Mill”, Lobethal, in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia (2007-2009); at “Wool and Sew”, Ulverstone, Tasmania (2009-2010); and at “spacebar gallery”, Salamanca Arts Centre, Hobart, Tasmania (2011) and at "The Brown Dog" Stanley (2013-2017).

Now, I only make special gifts, or take custom or wholesale orders for hand knits, due to the time and effort taken in making quality products – and have had many custom orders via Facebook.

Recently taking up sewing with a passion - self-taught through books, blogs and online tutorials. I only use quality materials; and enjoy learning new techniques and improving my skills and workmanship: and coming up with my own designs.

I now happily take custom orders, and stock my handmade items at stockists around Tasmania! Please have a look at the "Stockists" page, to see where you can find some of my handmade wares.

Loving the peace and tranquility, fresh air and native wildlife that living in North-West Tasmania has to offer.

I am loving being a mum, a "maker" and self-taught "artisan".
